DAY 7

  Genesis 2:1-4 :

1 Thus the heavens and the earth were

completed, and all their hosts.

2 By the seventh day God completed His work which He had made, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.

3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

4 These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

• These verses say that God ended His work. This wasn't just a pause. The universe He intended to create had been accomplished and God is no longer creating. God created natural processes and the universe continues largely under their divinely appointed rules.

We know new things don't naturally appear so that we can be certain these acts during creation were supernatural.

• God blessed the seventh day and made it holy. Have you noticed that God blessed all living creatures (animals and humans), and now also the seventh day, which is supposed to be a day of rest?

• The word „holy“ is something meaningful.

God Himself is holy which means there is no sin in Him.

But „holy“ also means „being set apart for“ — in this context „being set apart for God“.

So the seventh day is both a day of rest and a special day to be dedicated to God.

This is shown by attending church services,

worshipping God and consciously giving Him honor.

• God wants us humans to rest from our work one day a week because He knows that we need rest. When God blesses something, then God's favor is on it.

• God wants us to follow this seven day week.

In Exodus 20:8-11 (the second book of the Bible in the Old Testament), we read the following:

„Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.

On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your cattle, or the sojourner who stays with

you.

For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.“
